Intestinal Permeability

However, in certain conditions, these tight junctions can weaken, resulting in what is known as “increased intestinal permeability,” or “leaky gut.”

The following ideas can be used to address the root imbalances of most digestive conditions while reversing intestinal permeability by supporting gut healing.

1. Remove Overabundant Pathogens Residing in the Intestinal Tract

YOGURT CULTURE(non-dairy)

How to start:

  1. To start you will need to purchase a yogurt maker. A good brand and product that holds the temperature well in range for making cultures and utilizes ceramic or glass containers(BPA free) is offered at Luvele.com for around $110. Luvele provides printed and online instructions for various yogurts including those made with dairy or coconut milk. 
  2. If you are dairy free, you will need to find preservative and gum free coconut cream products. Any added preservatives in the coconut cream will kill the probiotic cultures you add to it otherwise. One option for tasty yogurt making is the brand Savoy. Some other brands will produce runnier yogurts. Read the ingredients section on the label to choose the best product.
  3. Next you will need to purchase the specific strain/products recommended by your doctor based on your individual microbiome test results or match symptoms based on research of specific probiotic strains. 
  4. The final step is to follow the directions for making a coconut yogurt culture with the products gathered in steps 1-3.

How to make a yogurt culture:

  1. Start the culture by adding the recommended or desired probiotic capsules into 2 cans of coconut cream. Pour a small amount of coconut cream into the yogurt maker glass jar. 
  1. Add the starter probiotic powder bit by bit and gently stir the way you would corn flour. If you do this step too fast or just dump the full contents of the capsule on top of the coconut cream you will just get clumps.
  2. Add the rest of the coconut cream and gently gently mix in. Close the lid and place the bowl into the machine. 
  3. Start the yogurt maker and leave to ferment for 6 (up to 24) hours at body temperature (no more than 100o F). Once the temperature of the unit has been reached for proper growth the probiotic strains will double every 20 minutes. The longer it cooks the greater the number of strains, but the more bitter it will become. We recommend starting out with a culture made over 2 hrs and 20 minutes. Since the culture doubles every 20 minutes a 10 million culture will turn into over 1.2 billion which is equivalent now to 128 capsules. 
  4. Once it is done, put it in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours before serving to allow the yogurt to thicken up. 
  5. Use in the same fashion as you would use dairy-derived yogurt, or as a base for the recipes below. A typical daily dose should be about one tbsp. Make enough to last about 2 weeks based on the number of family members who may use the culture.
