The start of any new year invites a new beginning. Here are some great tips to incorporate into your personalized plan for a healthier new year:
- Start the year off right by doing a Detox Diet for 8-12 weeks. Avoid common allergens such as dairy, wheat, and yeast products. Focus on eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, proteins like fish (like Alaskan salmon and wild tilapia), organic chicken, beans, or tofu plus brown rice and other whole grains.
- Combine the diet with any 4 week Detox Program that utilizes specific liver and colon detoxifying herbs, and nutrient IVs.
- Eat organic. The following foods are heavily sprayed with pesticides: strawberries, cherries, spinach, potatoes, kale, broccoli, apples, peaches, blueberries, nectarines, red/green bell peppers, celery, and grapes.
- Add 2 Tablespoons of ground flaxseed to your cereal, protein drink, or salad every day. Flaxseeds are a great source of and are rich in essential fatty acids. Not only can they help lower cholesterol, but they can help prevent estrogen sensitive cancers.
- Drink half your body weight of water in ounces and drink it out of a glass cup or steel water bottle, to avoid consuming phthalates (commonly found in plastics) and other cancer causing chemicals that will otherwise leach into the water.
- Decrease your toxic exposure by changing over your cleaning products to natural-based ones, like Seventh Generation.
- Throw away your perfume or cologne. Not only can your fragrances negatively impact your health but they can affect others by breathing them in as well. These fragrances contain unhealthy chemicals that can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
- Sleep! Aim for 8 hours a night. The right amount of sleep helps prevent weight gain and allows the body down time to re-boot for the next day.
- Be active. Walk, hike, dance, bike, yoga… something to get your heart pumping for at least 20 minutes a day.
- Make time everyday to relax or do something you enjoy.
