Naturopathic pediatric care shares many similarities with traditional pediatric care, but also differs in many ways.

The similarities include frequency of well checks and physical exams. Babies have their first checkup within the first few weeks after birth. Even when things are going well, frequent checkups during the first year are an important way to monitor your child's growth and development.  Well checks are recommended at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, and 24 months. From 2 years and on a well-child exam is recommended every year.

A well-child exam includes measurements of your baby's length, weight and head circumference.  The measurements will be plotted on a growth chart. In addition a complete physical exam including head, eyes, ears, mouth, skin, heart, lungs, abdomen, and legs will be performed.

The differences include length of the visit and parent education. A new patient visit is 45 minutes in length and follow up visits are 30 minutes. This allows the doctor plenty of time to answer questions and provide education. Parent education includes food introduction schedules, vaccination information, tips on keeping your child’s immune system working optimally, and most importantly instruction on preventing the most common childhood ailments: eczema, ear infection, and allergies.
